| Here in the uk if you are served a life sentance you will get twenty five yrs , its very rare that you will serve that full sentance, its more likely to be halfed or less with good behaviour.
In the usa, life means life, mostly served without the right to parole, even if you get sentanced to life with the possibilty of parole it takes a long long time for them to even consider it.
Why is it so different in each country and what in your opinion is the correct answer, should life mean life ? or is the sentance just a mockery to those left behind x

| I really don't understand our system in the U.S. Charles Manson got the death penalty, then the court abolished the death penalty in California. Manson then received life and has been given parole hearings. Go figure. People in England may tend to learn their lesson better than here. Our prisons have been releasing serious offenders because of overcrowding. Few seem to learn life on the outside is better. Also, the "gangstas" here look at getting locked up as a feather in their cap. It turns them into a Big Shot. Parole boards determine if someone stays in prison for life, or if they've changed enough to be safe in society. That would be a sentence like "25 to life, meaning you're eligable for parole in 25 years. If a judge gives you life without parole, you're done. The answer: the citizens need to get together, make a lot of noise for a long while, and let the politicians know what they want. In the U.S., we have a serious problem with the legal system being accused of racism. It's not a legitament complaint typically, but, the sqeeky wheel gets the grease. | |

| Trust me bill, our system isnt that much better if at all.
People here are also released due to full prisons, funnily enough its usually the mentally challenged or the peadaphiles that get out first.
Their are so many silly little sentances that put people in prison that its forcing us to let the hardened criminals out on good behaviour or tag, i just dont get it myself.
The system leaves a lot to be desired at both ends hun xxx
