Possibly, but I don't put much stock into the idea. Spirits may help you at times. I don't feel they have a large territory to patrol. If I'm ever helped in a bad situation, I'll credit it to a local resident spirit.

im not sure how far back it goes but i like to think my grandparents at least are watching over us .

Thats not to say that all encounters may involve them like you say bill xxx
